Hello!
Sorry for not posting this as my third blog like i have said in my second blog , i have had some problems with urgent jobs :(.
Okay lets begin.
I think i am completely eligible to blog about Manglish because i have been speaking Manglish for years , it is the language of comfort , although i can speak a few dialects of indian and chinese languages and also Malay , Manglish is my comfort language , i can use it with almost anyone who has done SPM. I have also done some observation on the usage of Manglish by people of different races , locations and background.
Okay we have three major races in Malaysia . Obviously the racial differences will make a difference on the choice of words and sentence structure when they speak Manglish.
These following general manglish statements are taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manglish ,i took it since it is pretty precise.
* Wat la yu? (What lah you?) spoken in a rising disappointing tone means How could you? or How stupid can you get?
* Wat la yu.. (What lah you) spoken in lowering sheepish softening comforting tone means You shouldn't have or You should have been more careful but I still like you
* Got or not? spoken is rising tone means Did that happen? or Do you have it?
* Wear got? (Where got) spoken in rising exclamation means No such thing or I don't believe you
* Sure ah? spoken in rising question tone means Are you sure?
* O.K. wat? (OK what?) spoken in rising questioning OK and lowering assuring tone means Isn't this good enough? (with intent to assure that it is good enough) or This should be acceptable, isn't it?
* Like dat cannot la! (Like that cannot lah!) spoken with serious expression means I cannot accept it this way or in this condition
* How can? spoken in rising exclamation means How could this happen or How can this happen
* Die lah! spoken in somber or exclamation means I'm in deep shit or I would be in deep shit, both figuratively speaking
* ..is it? end any sentence with this question ignoring the grammar will mean Is this/that correct? or Is the statement true?
* When ah? Who ah? How ah? Why ah? Where ah? in rising ahs mean When? Who? How? Why? Where? respectively
* Eh hello! (hey hello!) or just hello! spoken in the middle of a conversation means That does not sound right or you don't seem alright. You are not paying attention, please stay alert!
(S.E-standard english , C.M-Chinese Manglish , I.M-Indian Manglish , M.M-Malay Manglish)
S.E : No , it cant be done.
C.M : cannot la.
I.M : cannot la.
S.E : Hey do you still have XXX ?
C.M : Ei you still got XXX meh ?
I.M : Ei you still got XXX eh(e prounounced as in earth) ?
S.E : Please come and have a look first .
C.M : come and see first loh .
I.M : come and see first lah .
S.E : Damn , how did this happen ?
C.M : Yooo , how it happen ?
I.M : Aiyo , how did it happen ?
Sometimes it depends on the location too , for example mallacans often use sial , like when they speak malay . as in :
cannot lah sial! , i dunno lah sial , damn big sial that thing....
It also sometimes depends on their background , most modern malaysians use Bro to address their male friends , Malaysians who have many indian friends use Cha(Macha) to address their male friends , Malaysians with many malay friends might use pergh , wei , doh , bapak ah and many more expression in their sentences to add stress. And the list goes on and on......
I would like to recommend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manglish to people who wish to have a general idea of Manglish , although i think some parts are exaggerated and are not that precise , it is pretty good for you to get a rough idea . But to learn it for real , you got to come to Malaysia lah bro , mingle with the mamats , machas and Taukes and maybe later you can speak like us oso la.
Namaste ,
Thara.

No Strings Attached
NEW WORLD. NEW POSSIBILITIES.
the world fully opens to you now.
Yes , you guessed it , its about P1 W1MAX!
okay , for years we never had a competitor for our Telekom's Streamyx , and the speed was alright but right after P1 W1MAX entered the ring , the internet speed became better. So what am i trying to say? With competition we perform better.
Its true , perfect example , politics in Malaysia.
They have two packages , the Portable Modem Wiggy and Desktop Modem with Wifi. The first one is freaking small , freaking light and looks freaking classy! The second one has Wifi so that you can save your money on router!AND mind you NO STRINGS ATTACHED!!! To my surprise the portable one can be topped up with prepaid?!? dang!
P1 proudly brings you P1 W1MAX, the service where you can surf on our high-speed wireless broadband network with the ease of a plug-and-play modem-xxx. Okay , so whats the plus points you ask? first of all according to their website , it has super fast connection , dota?no problem! Secondly , no phone line required...yes i can see you smile:). Thirdly , you just have to plug and play...that is crazy, just like thumb drives , okay maybe i am a little carried away by this:P. Their website also says they have great rates , so they have all this amazing features and come with a great rate???i hope it means a cheaper rate!!!The last one is that they say it has extended coverage , although currently not available in my place , im very sure they'll get it here very soon and i am waiting for the switch!
See this is what we want in Malaysia , something that could compete on the international scale . We do not want something that is outdated and laughed at. We want something that the tourists will talk about , something we could brag about. We have always been at the backbench...its our turn to sit in front and be able to talk. How? by supporting these great products that are up to date , competitive and creative.
And not forgetting one of the big things recently the project alpha season 2 , check it out here http://projectalpha.com.my/.
Project Alpha Season 2 is presented by Adidas Action 3 and supported by P1 and MAS.

Roti Canai and Teh Tarik
Anne! Roti satu , Teh tarik satu!
ah...ne , kasi banjeeee ah...
The typical malaysians' almost instinctive line for ordering their national favorite food and drink.
The roti canai comes from Parotta(south india) and Paratha(North india). Roti in some indian , modern carribean creoles mean bread , while canai comes from the malay term which means to knead. While Teh tarik literally means pulled tea in malay literally , they are mostly made from rose fragranced tea mixed with the maker's choice of another tea and condensed milk.
The ingredients for Roti Canai are generally Wheat flour , salt , condensed milk , cheap margarine and egg(i prefer the non-egged ones) , kneaded , left overnight, and the macha near the frying pan will do his magic and bring us this wonderful roti canai. While Teh tarik is made by mixing two types of powdered tea , boiled , filtered ,mixed with condensed milk and again the macha will do his magic and bring you the foamy milk tea.
The price for roti canai could go from 60 cents to RM 1.20. While the famous brown drink could go from 60 cents to RM 1.
So lemme tell you some stuffs you might not know about mamak stalls and mamak restaurants. The weird things about them are they are not run by MAMAKs(people of malay and indian mixed marriages)!!! But by indians and most of the restaurants are owned and run by non-malaysian muslim indians generally from Malabar , Kerala(a south indian state) , while the mamak stalls are owned mostly by malaysians of indian descent and run by Indian workers generally from Tamil Nadu(a south indian state).
The famous varieties of roti canai are roti susu , roti cheese , roti planta , roti milo , roti sardin , roti gula , roti tisu , roti pisang , roti telur and banyak lagila sial , malas aku nak tulis. The best choices of gravy to eat with them are of course dhal and kari campur(a mix of chicken and dhal curry).Sadly i can't have the latter :(.
On my next scribble i'ma write about the famous Malaysian english creole called Manglish...ngeh , cant wait!
Your macha,
Thara
